Heep Horp – Satellite High

by Boogie Howser on Nov.30, 2009, under Music

Alright, So I guess I better post to this thing finally.

This is Jay Friedman

Real Ears. Fake Beard.

Jay goes by the name Satellite High.

Satellite High makes some INCREDIBLE hip hop.

Satellite High – Get Your Eyes Back In Your Head

Satellite High – Focus In!

See, didn’t i tell you?

Another thing: Remember awesome acts like 2 Live Crew and Poison Clan? Those hyper sexual acts that skirted the line between really funny and really good? Well, meet Johnny Boob. Johnny Boob has nothing to do with Satellite High of course.

One Seventy Plus

by Dodeca on Nov.29, 2009, under Music

fsor300Atmospheric drum and bass makes fantastic background music.  I don’t say this to be demeaning to the genre, but in the same vein as live dinner jazz, it frames a distinct yet unassuming mood for whatever you happen to be doing.  This is in distinct contrast to much of the flashier electronic music out there; music which likes to kick the front door of it’s hinges and loudly proclaim that you must pay attention to it.  On a day like this, after a busy weekend that had me running the full gamut of emotion, it’s music like this that I want to walk the neighbourhood with.

Mr. Sizef – Garmoniya Mirov
Dexcell – Midnight Circuit
Sub Focus – Last Jungle

Will it Blend (and Mix)?

by Dodeca on Nov.27, 2009, under Music

mixnblend

Honestly, I wasn’t thrilled when I first heard this album. The opening tracks feature heavily shuffled rhythms with a quirky mash of samples, seemingly only for the reason of fusing shuffle and quirk. It ends up leaving these cuts as too much of a juxtaposition — tracks that scream “hey, look at me, I’m eccentric”, leaving you only wanting to punch their artsy presumption in the face. Thankfully, things get increasingly better as the album rolls along. By the time the snappy hip hop instrumental Sik Wid It rolled around I was hooked, doubly so with the dissonant downtempo musicality of First Light ft. Rayelle. And lastly the hands-up funky drum and bass roller of Full Ahead that I originally bought this thing for. Welcome to the weekend.

Natural History X

Been doing my best to catch up on a lot of the drum and bass I’ve been missing in the last couple of months (so expect a couple of posts on the genre).  High up on my list of things to make time for was Blue Mar Ten’s latest.  A stack of airy atmospheric brooders, Natural History is the perfect soundtrack to match a grey, thoughtful day.

Blue Mar Ten – Believe Me
Blue Mar Ten – Bedroom Eyes
Blue Mar Ten – Overwhelm

Deekline’s Shocker

by Dodeca on Nov.25, 2009, under Music

deeklineremixed

Been sort of a drab day around here. So I rifled through my new music looking for an edgy pick-me-up. First thing I came up with was Deekline & Wizard’s One in the Front featuring DJ Assault of booty house fame. It’s a heavy breaky roller with a set of lyrics that’ll make you blush and ask ‘are you serious?’

Party-Rock-sh-t-lmfao-header-740

Every month, BH and I sort through gigabytes of music, and troll some of the darkest corners of the internet to see what’s up.  Truthfully, it’s often both chore and bore.  Which is why I’m always thankful for those rarities which first catch my attention, then make me grin, then have me standing up to shake my not-so-apple bottom ass.  The two tracks in this post aren’t life-changing, nor are they stewed in any deep meaning.  They’re unpretentious, straight-up, fun-as-all-get-out party tracks. Give’r.

Schwayze & LMFAO – Get You Home (Party Rock remix)
Fool’s Gold – Surprise Hotel (Toadally Krossed Out Remix)

Horns and House

by Dodeca on Nov.24, 2009, under Music

Trombone20Cropped

Three tracks up for grabs here from my latest mix.  Peppered with horn and vocal samples from the early 20th, these have been in heavy rotation lately when I play out.  I never tire of seeing heads turn during both Why Don’t You and Save Us when the beat kicks out leaving nothing but the big band playing, only to kick back in with spliced, choppy awesomeness.

Gramophonedzie – Why Don’t You?
Nadastrom – Save Us
Sandy Huner – Rare Tap (2000 and One cut) (removed at artist’s request)
